A Day with My Goats and Horses – Nurturing Self-Care whilst working from home In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it’s easy to overlook the importance of self-care. As a professional who works from home, I’ve come to understand that nurturing one’s well-being is not only a choice but a necessity. The past year has been a testament to the value of self-care, especially when your work environment is just a few steps away from your living space. It’s in these moments of solitude that I’ve found solace in a rather unconventional place – amidst my goats and horses.

Do you get working from Home blues?

Working from home certainly has its perks, but it can also be a lonely and isolating experience. The convenience of avoiding daily commutes and being able to set your own schedule is balanced with the challenge of battling the solitude that often accompanies it. For someone who thrives on human interaction and the energy of a bustling workplace, the transition to remote work can be an adjustment, to say the least.

The days spent in my home office had started to blend together. The four walls of my workspace began to feel confining, and the Zoom meetings replaced face-to-face conversations. It was a routine that, while efficient, lacked the warmth of human connection. That’s when I decided to seek solace in nature, and more specifically, in the company of my beloved goats and horses.

Connecting with Nature

There’s a therapeutic quality to being in the presence of animals that’s difficult to put into words. Stepping out into the open expanse of our farm and breathing in the fresh country air, I felt an instant shift in my perspective. My goats and horses, with their gentle eyes and playful antics, greeted me as I entered their space. It’s here that my journey into self-care truly began.

The Healing Power of Animal Companions

As I observed my animals, I realised that they had a lot to teach me about self-worth and the art of living in the present moment. Goats, with their curious nature and mischievous charm, have a way of reminding me to embrace life’s adventures. They teach me to be open to the unexpected and find joy in the small things, like the way they eagerly nibble on a fresh patch of grass.

Horses, on the other hand, offer a different kind of wisdom. Their gentle and serene presence brings a sense of peace and mindfulness. In their company, I learned the value of patience and the art of letting go. The simple act of grooming a horse, feeling the connection as they respond to my touch, is a form of meditation in itself.

A Day in the Life

My day with my animal companions often begins with a leisurely walk around the farm. We take in the sights, sounds, and smells of nature. I watch the goats frolic with boundless energy, and I sit quietly with the horses, our souls connecting in the tranquil setting. Sometimes, I bring a book and sit under the shade of a tree, reading while my animal friends graze nearby. It’s a time to be present, to forget about deadlines and emails, and simply exist.

The Impact on Self-Worth

This routine has had a profound impact on my self-worth. As I connect with my animals and nature, I am reminded that my value isn’t solely determined by the quantity of tasks I complete or the deadlines I meet. It’s about recognising my worth as a living being, deserving of love and care, just like the animals that share my life.

In the embrace of nature and the warmth of my animal companions, I’ve discovered that self-worth isn’t something to be achieved; it’s something to be nurtured. It’s about recognising the beauty in simply being, in being present in the moment, and finding joy in the simple pleasures of life.

The Call of Self-Care

In the midst of the daily grind, self-care is often considered a luxury, something to be squeezed into a busy schedule. However, my journey with my goats and horses has taught me that self-care is not an indulgence but a necessity. It’s a way to recharge and reconnect with ourselves, to rediscover our self-worth and the importance of nurturing our well-being.

Finding Balance

Balancing the demands of remote work with the need for self-care isn’t always easy, but it’s essential. It’s about finding those moments of respite, like spending time with my animal companions, that remind us of the beauty and simplicity of life. It’s about recognising that we are worth the time and care we give to ourselves, just as much as we give to our work.

As I watch the sun set over the rolling hills (well nearly we are in Bedfordshire), I am filled with gratitude for the lessons I’ve learned from my goats and horses. They’ve shown me the way to self-care, self-worth, and the beauty of simply being. In their presence, I’ve found the perfect balance between the demands of work and the nurturing of my own well-being.

A Lesson from My Animal Friends

So, to all those working from home or caught in the whirlwind of daily life, take a lesson from my animal friends. Find your own slice of nature, embrace the simple moments, and remember that you are deserving of love and self-care. In these moments, you’ll discover the true essence of self-worth, and that is a lesson worth learning.

In the company of my goats and horses, I’ve found the perfect antidote to the challenges of remote work. It’s a reminder that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity, and that it can be found in the most unexpected of places. Whether you have your own animal companions or not, remember to seek solace in nature and in the present moment. Your self-worth will thank you for
